After last year’s break due to Covid, the city is once again making national and international contacts this week at Europe’s largest real estate fair, Expo Real. In Munich, Marl presents itself and gate.ruhr as a prime location.

“Currently, many positive development perspectives are emerging for Marl as a location,” said Michael Bach, general representative of the mayor, in the run-up to the renowned trade fair. “It is all the more important to be present in Munich and to position Marl as a prime location with enormous potential.” Dr. Manfred Gehrke, head of the economic development department of the city of Marl, leads the investor talks at the exhibition stand of the Metropole Ruhr, where the district of Recklinghausen and the cities belonging to the district also present themselves. “Expo Real is an important date in the annual calendar. We want to talk about the prime location of Marl and its projects with globally active players from business and urban planning,” says Dr Gehrke.

Marl has a lot to show for itself in the Bavarian capital, with gate.ruhr being one of the largest locations in the Ruhr region. More than 1,000 new jobs are to be created on the 90-hectare former coal mining site. In a first step, gate.ruhr GmbH, founded by the city of Marl and RAG Montan Immobilien, wants to develop a partial area totalling 12.5 hectares. Marketing is to start next year. Dr. Gehrke: “Particularly against the background of the special challenges facing the Ruhr region and its cities, it is important to coordinate regionally and to promote the region’s great potential jointly and in a concerted manner”.
